A two part introductory discussion laying the foundation for the series with your Brick Management Team is about why we created a podcast, and why we are so interested in bricks. We also introduce the paranormal Phenomenon known as Synchronicity, and why we became interested in it after watching Hellier. Episode One talks about how Sara/SJ (they/them) became obsessed with bricks and how her childhood experiences may have prepped her for a liminal life.
Episode Two focuses on Andrea's (she/her) early experiences with the weird, and how growing up Catholic helped shape that lens. In order to understand why Hellier spoke to us so strongly, we have to look back at the trajectory of Sara and Andrea's lives long before we met, and why it seemed to be fated we would be friends.
One of the patterns that keeps happening is finding unexpected familial connections to the players in this Hidden brick story, again and again. This episode we discuss how Sara/SJ first became interested in Mother Joseph and about how relationships between fathers and their daughters seems to be a repeating theme in this Synchronicity tale for many of the players in this still-unfolding saga.
We also discuss Sara's "Cursed Repaints" of thrift store items that got her in trouble with Mother Joseph, and bring you a Message From the Bricks.
More about that very first Hidden brick from 1871 that kicked off this whole Brick Madness for us both. Also, a brief history lesson on the English Hudson's Bay Company and how bricks first arrived in Clark County to build Fort Vancouver, where the first Catholic Settlement to the area began.
Two early pioneer Oregon men got our attention during research that are worth noting - John McLoughlin and Pierre Parazoo. We'll tell you why we noticed both and what they have to do with our favorite nuns, and us!
On this special two part episode, we take you on a tour of The Providence Academy in Vancouver, Washington, the last remaining building Mother Joseph herself built, where she lived and eventually died after a prolonged illness. The best way to experience these two episodes is to head over to the Providence Academy page to follow along with the photos as we walk through and describe the building's many amazing details. (We link the episode audio over there too.)
This building is ground zero for Hidden Brick magic and we'll tell you why. Why might hauntings experienced there over the years continue to happen? Rumors of reasons for the activity here include CURSED BRICKS and a HAUNTED BELL.
Much like Sara/SJ discovering similarities between Mother Joseph and herself, soon Andrea became dumbfounded when she started lining up the number of synchronicities between a nun named Blessed Emilie Gamelin and herself. We'll talk about who Emilie Tavernier Gamelin was, what she was like, the continual tragedies she faced and why she's important to both Mother Joseph and to this haunted brick story.
Also...we told you it was contagious! We give another update about how bricks are making themselves known in some of our listeners' lives!
What we now affectionately call "This Brick Shit" continues to be contagious - we get into even more of the unfolding madness with you as it spreads further among our listeners!
We report back after visiting an amazing historic site in Salem, Oregon together, the Willamette Heritage Center. We describe how we smuggled out some old stuff from the site like a couple of criminals for our altars (witches are weird, ok?) and also get into the many hauntings experienced there. We think both the natural landcape and importance throughout Oregon's history helped create the liminal conditions common with haunted locations.

Finally defeating some of the persistent Technical Goblins that plague our recording sessions, we are thrilled to bring you our first guest, and he's pretty amazing. We hope you have as much fun listening as we did talking with Cursed Filmmaker Janice.Click about how he has now permanently cursed Sara/SJ forever with a Crack Addiction from his Cursed Shrek Crack Dybbuk Box that she bought on ebay.
Say WHAA?
Just cue it up and listen if you need a laugh, trust us. Check out Janice.Click on Instagram or YouTube to connect with him or arrange to even be cursed yourself! Whatever you do... WATCH OUT FOR PIGMAN... and fuck you Zak Bagans and David Head!
The first time Andrea came to Vancouver specifically to investigate all of the weirdness around Hidden bricks with SJ, she was powerfully drawn to the St. James Proto-Cathedral in downtown Vancouver. Within minutes of being in town and visiting the church that Mother Joseph helped build in the 1880's she was officially pulled into the brick synchronicities in a big way.
We get more into why this church caught our attention later in Episode 13, but the Cathedral itself has some serious weirdness surrounding it, with links back to our friend Father Blanchet from Episode 3. We'll share a bizarre story involving his remains being disinterred from what they call the "HIDDEN CRYPT" there.
This gorgeous church even has links to none other than the Elder God Pan, which we get into more in Episode 13.
Part One: The Night Sara met Micheal - TW: Domestic Violence, Language. Please note, this is not an easy listen, particularly the first 11 minutes or so. Continual Synchronistic events in her life leading directly back to the worst night of her life can no longer be ignored - and SJ's finally ready to put this all behind her, and try to figure out what might have actually happened that strange and awful night. Hellier fans won't want to miss this one.
NOTE: In this episode, there is a clear change and break in the conversation, and you can bail out at 27:44 - likewise, if you aren't in the mood for a very heavy conversation, you can start there and listen to part one when you are emotionally ready.
Part Two: We took a little break after Episode 11 and almost bailed out of the podcast, but luckily for our listeners, we are now completely back on our BS. We'll tell you what's next for Two Witches and lighten the mood before we sign off! We promise never to leave you bummed out at the end of an episode.
What we jokingly like to call "Witch Class" is now officially in Session! Andrea explains what dowsing and water witching are and how her dad taught her the ancestral practice as a child. She has the proven skills to teach us the right way to water witch, and learning to do it comes with a hilarious and surprising bonus. A hilarious story about her father's experiences dowsing made SJ roar with laughter, and we'll tell you how the first recorded dowsing was linked back to a nun! We will talk about dowsing more in Episode 15 with Psychic Empath Janet Borkowski.
As we mentioned earlier in Episode 11.5, Andrea recently had surgery on her foot, and was understandably pretty nervous about it. Apparently "the Powers That Be" thought it was time someone besides SJ spilled her guts to you - now it's Andrea's turn to tell you an unbelievable, but absolutely true, hospital story.
We're back to the St. James Cathedral from Episode 11 to tell you more about the links between the Catholics and the God Pan!
We examine what is considered to be the most important Catholic church in the world, the St. Peter's Basilica, located in Vatican City, Rome. This church specifically is linked to our favorite nuns and also ended up in the middle of what SJ calls another "Synchronicity Bomb."
There's also history between famously "Weird" Portland, Oregon and Pan, and of course there's a major link to Sara's favorite red brick building across the river in Portland, the 1891-built Dekum.
Mother Joseph was born on April 16, 1823 - so this month marks what would be her 198th Birthday! We're having a party, and you're totally invited.
You only get One Witch this time - Sara will share with listeners how Mother Joseph once again seems to have rewarded her for going "All In" with things that make her feel uncomfortable as she continues to go deep down the rabbithole of their unlikely connection. SJ also reads some of her favorite tales she's learned about Mother Joseph during her recent research, preserved mostly due to the hard work of a nun named Sister Rita.
We think if you listen to this episode, you too will appreciate what made MoJo so legendary and even "feared by men." She was pretty incredible, to say the least.
We're thrilled to finally bring you a conversation with one of our favorite humans: writer, investigator, musician, lead of the Bird Army and all around Master of Cool, A. P. Strange - better known around these parts as just "Matt," or the Perfect Haired Oracle of the East. Listeners of this podcast know we battle Technical Goblins on the regular, but this recording's problems takes the cake. We blame alien interference.
Matt and SJ work some forms of Chaos Magic together, and it works...although, sometimes it's paired with unintended consequences. We discuss with Andrea how having effective magic isn't as complicated as you might think, and how not taking yourself too seriously is a big part of that.
Sara and Matt aren't done creating chaos in this particular simulation. If you want in on the madness, you can help us try to bring back The King... as in Elvis. We expect him to re-appear around Christmas time, maybe even in a UFO - HAIL ERIS! We also are proud to bring you an important and timely message from our first Sponsor, Magical Jobcat!
